(By Wang Guangqi) September 8, on the occasion of both Teachers' Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, School of International Education (Department of International Exchange and Cooperation) hold a unique Mid-Autumn cultural experience event in Guiling Cultural Village, Nanyang City. International students and teachers, and teachers from School of International Education (Department of International Exchange and Cooperation) participate in this event.
International teachers and students first take a tour of the cultural village with strong farming civilization and tranquility. The green rice fields, yellow millet, cheeping livestock, unique stone mills and other farm tools go a long way towards tasting the countryside, making those international students with rural backgrounds feel familiar and take pictures everywhere enthusiastically. International teachers and students then experience one of the treasures of Chinese culture - Hanfu, learning about the Hanfu culture and etiquette culture that has lasted for more than a thousand years. Also, they experience an entertaining game - Touhu, which was a game for ancient scholars and bureaucrats while drinking. The teachers and students are very interested and active in playing the game, cheering with joy and fun and becoming indulged in the traditional Chinese culture.
In the end, all the teachers and students together make handmade mooncakes, a delicacy of the Mid-Autumn Festival, after entering the "Guipu Kitchen". Under the guidance of the enthusiastic "little teacher", they knead dough, select molds, weigh, mix and wrap fillings, and step on molds, all in a good and correct manner. Mooncakes of various shapes and colors, such as flowers, birds, fish, insects, animals and others, are made through merry laughs. During the mooncake making, international teachers and students fully understand the significance of mooncakes in the Mid-Autumn Festival, i.e., family reunion, autumn harvest and a wish for a better future.
This event aims to promote international teachers and students' understanding of the cultural connotations of Chinese traditional festivals and customs, stimulate international students' interest in learning Chinese and strive to be ambassadors of Chinese culture, and make contributions to further improving the training quality for international students in China and pushing ahead with internationalization of our university.
