History

Nanyang, formerly known as Wan, a prefecture level city under the jurisdiction of Henan Province, is an important transportation hub in the central region approved by the State Council and a regional central city in the border area of Henan, Hubei and Shaanxi provinces. By the end of 2019, the city has jurisdiction over 2 administrative regions, 10 counties and 1 county-level city. It covers 2,650,900 square kilometers in total. According to the data of the seventh national census, as of 0:00 on November 1, 2020, the permanent resident population of Nanyang city was 9,713,112.

Nanyang is a famous national historical and cultural city with a history of more than 2,700 years. It is located in the southwest of Henan Province and the junction of Henan, Hubei and Shaanxi provinces. It is named Nanyang because it is located in the south of Funiu Mountain and the north of Han River. Nanyang Xichuan is the place where Taocha canal head project in the middle route of South-to-North Water Transfer Project is located, the world's largest water transfer project, and one of the important core water source areas.

Nanyang, with its rich history and culture, is an important birthplace of Chu and Han culture. It is also "the hometown of Chinese rose", "the hometown of AI( a kind of herb) in the world" and "the hometown of Chinese jade-carving".

1. Temple of Marquis Wu (National 4-A Grade Scenic Spot)

Located at Wolonggang, west of Nanyang City, Henan Province, a famous historic and cultural city of China, Nanyang Temple of Marquis Wu was built in the Wei and Jin Dynasties (220 A.D. ~ 420 A.D.) and flourished in the Tang and Song Dynasties (618 A.D ~ 1279 A.D.) with a history of more than 1,800 years. It is where “Three Visits to the Cottage” (a well-known event in the Chinese history) happened, where Zhuge Liang once lived and where imperial household and common people worshipped Zhuge Liang. In 1963, it was listed as one of the first batch of key cultural relics protection units of Henan Province; in 1996, it was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit; in 2007, it was titled as a National 4-A Grade Scenic Spot; in 2008, it was listed as one of the first session of national second class museums.

2. Nanyang World Rose Grand View Garden

It is a view garden with the theme of rose built in Intercontinental Nanyang 2019 World Conference on roses. Located at the intersection between Yueji Revenue and Eastern Ring Road, it is a main activity area and the exhibition area of roses. Covering an area of 1,543 mu, it consists of north park, east park and west park, 13 city exhibition parks of the county (city and district) of Nanyang and 6 exhibition parks out of Nanyang, including theme experience area, cultural area, service area and scientific research and production area. The view garden holds 5,100 species of 1,400,000 roses.

Transportation Guide

1. Bus

All public transit vehicles in Nanyang City are buses and most of them are self-service ticketing buses, RMB1 Yuan to be paid once.

2. Taxi

Taxi fare is calculated by travelling distance, RMB1.5 Yuan per kilometer with starting fare of RMB5 Yuan (including 2 kilometers), which is indicated on the front taximeter of the taxi. In Nanyang, taxies are set with the marker light "TAXI" on the top and the photo, name, telephone and unit of the driver are placed near the instrument inside the taxi. Ask for invoice from the driver while getting down, so you can contact the taxi driver or its company in case of any problem.
