(By Wang Zhiping) Nanyang Normal University is selected to be constructed as a university with international characteristics in Henan Province, in the Notice on Publishing the List of Higher Institutions in Henan Province to Be Constructed as Universities with International Characteristics issued by Department of Education of Henan Province recently. This is the latest breakthrough in our university’s construction of internationalization. It is learned that this is the first time for Henan Province to construct universities with international characteristics. Only 25 universities are in the list.

According to the requirements of the construction objectives, by 2025, our university will be built into a university with international characteristics in Henan Province, which takes the lead in terms of international cooperation and exchanges within the province and has certain influence and a demonstrative leading role in the country, providing talent assurance, intellectual support, and scientific and technological support to ensure the high-level construction of modern Henan and the high-quality realization of modern Henan.

Over the years, our university has promoted the internationalization of university running in accordance with the principles of “leading as a whole, distinctive characteristics, strong guarantee”. Remarkable results are achieved and cooperative relations are successively established with more than 30 overseas universities or scientific institutions; 3 undergraduate Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, 1 junior college program, and 4 curriculum cooperation programs are approved by the Ministry of Education, benefiting more than 4,000 students; 1 overseas university running project; radio and television editing and directing major’s eligibility assessment by the Ministry of Education is passed on the first attempt; more than 500 teachers and students go abroad to visit, exchange, study, practice or participate in various international competitions; international students from more than 20 countries study in our university; 93 long-term and short-term foreign experts are hired; as the first batch of international promotion bases of Chinese culture in Henan Province, 23 volunteer Chinese teachers are sent to 9 countries including the United States, Thailand and Egypt in recent years. Through international exchanges and cooperation, our teachers and students' awareness of participating in international competition is continuously raised, our international university running ability consistently improves, the levels of teaching, management and service steadily upgrade, and fresh vitality of university running continues to be injected in order to realize the connotation and leapfrog development of our university’s education opening to the outside world, and to build our university into an inland education opening-up highland.
