Dear Readers and Writers,
Here is the fifth issue of our literary magazine, the theme of which is "True Love." There are many kinds of true love…romantic love, family love, love of life and adventure, love of freedom. We have some great poems in this issue, but it is mostly a collection of short stories from our talented NYNU students. They show many different “true loves.” We hope you enjoy reading them!
We are accepting writing and art for the sixth issue until June. Submit your works to our email inbox: writtenworld@163.com. We welcome all students to participate! Also, your suggestions are always welcome.

True Love
Love is to us what water is to fish. Love is to us what flowers are to bees. Love is to us what sunshine is to earth. True love is the most beautiful language in the world.
True love is our parent's care. They often call us to know our condition when we stay at school. At home, they always cook delicious food for us. They work very hard to support us, help us go to college and give all they have to us. This is true love.
True love is our friends' support. They care about our every action, and show us affection. They cheer us up when we are in low spirits. They will encourage and support us if we lose. They always know what we are thinking and listen to us complain about something. They accompany us forever no matter what happens. This is true love.
True love is a lover's honesty. When you are happy, he will be delighted with you. When you are sad, he will also be in a low mood. He doesn't worry about your shortcomings but considers them just a part of you. This is true love.
True love is not just family love, friendship, or romantic love, it is everything that makes us happy. True love is the most sincere and precious thing in our lives. We all should cherish it.

Taylor, Tom, and Jack
One day, a girl named Taylor attended a party. She met a handsome boy, and fell in love for the first time. His name was Tom, and she didn’t tell him she loved him until Christmas Day. She invited Tom to a café and said to him, “I know you, I know you like cats, coffee, cars, videogames…I know all of you, and I know I love you. Will you accept my love?”
Tom was surprised and said, “I’m so sorry, but I can’t.” Taylor was sad, but didn’t give up. She still waited for him after class, wanted his company, and asked him out to restaurants. This made him dislike her more and more. He said, “Oh my God! Why are you so terrible?! I don’t like you. Get away from me!” Taylor was very disappointed, and finally gave up.
Tom’s best friend, Jack, actually liked Taylor very much. He gave her support, and said things like, “I don’t mind that you like Tom…I’m like you and will wait until you fall in love with me.” Taylor was so impressed that she accepted his love.
This bothered Tom. He decided to pursue Taylor after all, and he was sure that she still loved him. Tom said to her, “I really regret that I rejected you. Finally, I’ve realized I love you. Will you accept my apology and my love?” Taylor is impressed by this speech, and accepts his love. Of course, when Jack found out about it, he was really sad. After a week though, Tom recover his natural instincts, and left Taylor. They separated, and her heart was broken.
One year later, Taylor had become a strong woman with a strong heart. She saw Tom and Jack on the street, and she was going to smile at them and say hello. Then, she saw Tom kissing Jack! She couldn’t believe it. They saw her, and the three of them greeted one another. Near the end of their conversation, Tom said, “Jack and I have known each other for many years, and we are in each other’s hearts. We know that we hurt you, though. Can you forgive us?”
“Of course,” said Taylor. It took her a moment to recover from the surprise, but she forgives them. I hope you have a good life together!”

Find Your Love Again
Elina, as a girl from a big family, had a colorful childhood. She can dance, sing beautiful songs, play the guitar, and paint. She is active, sociable, and kind. After she graduated from university, she married one of her classmates, David.
David is considerate. He always sends her text message throughout the day. In the morning he would say, “good morning, my dear, have you eaten?” In the afternoon he would ask, “do you need a ride to school on my bike? Would you like to eat some fish?” Int eh evening, he would express how much he missed her by saying things like, “have good dreams, and I will see you in your dreams.”
David always remembers Elina’s birthday, and he gave her many gifts, including flowers, funny books, gloves, chocolates, and other things. Of these things, Elina can never forget the silver necklace. That day, they were eating dinner as usual, when David took it out of his pocket and said “Happy Birthday!”
Elina replied, “Thank you!”
“Do you like it?”
“Oh, yes, it’s beautiful.”
“Oh, no, it’s too simple and cheap! But, I had no more money.”
“No, it’s a memory of our love. It cannot be measured by money. What’s really important is our emotions.”
“I promise I will buy you an expensive one in the future.”
“Ok, ok, let’s eat the food.”
They lived very happily the first two years of their marriage, though Elina sometimes felt lonely. During that time, David was always busy with business. Because of this, Elina often though to herself, if I only had a child!
One day, at lunch, David started talking about his aggressive plans to become a manager at his company. Elina stopped him and asked him to run with her that evening. With much work still left to do, David refused. “I have to read a lot of market reports, make many phone calls, assign many tasks, and make many decisions.”
Elina heard him, but still asked for a different answer. “How can you leave me alone? I want to work out with you.”
“I can buy you a running machine.”
“I just want to spend time with you, not a running machine.” Just then, David’s phone rang. He walked away from her, while answering the phone.
A month later, Elina went to a doctor, because she often felt sleepy in the daytime. She learned that she had become pregnant. She was so excited! She went home with delight and told David. To her surprise, David wanted her to get rid of the baby. Elina cried angrily, “Why? Why? Can you tell me why?”
“I still have some goals to realize. I want to be the best among my coworkers, so I have little time to look after you and a baby.”
“We can take care of ourselves.”
“The most important thing is that we do not have enough money, and I need money to develop my career. We do not have the ability to bring up a child now.”
“What do you mean? Your career is more important?”
Without any hesitation, he said “Yes, of course.”
“Then, what about me?”
“Er, er, er, you…you…”
“Tell me the truth, my dear.”
After a one-minute silence, David said slowly, “If I must choose one, I think my career is more important. You know, as a man, I must be wealthy and have the ability to support my family…or my children will get a poor education, eat and wear something bad, and live in a small house. They will not have a brigher future than us.”
“But money is just a part of our lives. We don’t need so much money.”
“Yes, maybe that’s true, but can we wait to have children for another year? I will get promoted soon, and I’m busy now. I like babies, but not now.”
Elina said, “I cannot wait any more. I will never give up the baby, no matter what you say. If you don’t want the baby, let’s divorce. I can’t stand the lonely days anymore. After we got married, all you cared about was your work.”
“Ok, as you wish, let’s divorce.”
Eight months after the divorce, Elina gave birth to a baby boy. One year later, Elina threw a party in her mother’s home to celebrate her son’s birthday. She invited lots of friends, but not David…even though she didn’t hate him anymore, and hoped he would appear to see the baby. Fortunately, her mother understood her hopes, and had told David about the party.
When David came, he brought many expensive presents. He walked straight to Elina, and she greeted him with a polite smile.
He said, “You look so pale, you must be tired taking care of our baby.”
“Everything is going well, what about you?”
“Not so well. I’m not happy without your company.”
“Oh? Well…”
David went on to say, “I was a workaholic to be successful before, but when I achieved my goals, I found that my life had not improved, but become boring. What I did before was wrong. I should have looked after you rather than ignore you. Can you please forgive me for my selfishness and come back to me?”
“What do you mean?”
“I still love you, and I want to marry you again,” he said.
“Really? Is that really what you want?”
“Of course.” As David spoke, he slid his arms around her waist and she put her head on his chest.

The First Sight of Love
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl named Rose. She was born into a rich family, and had a happy life with her parents. As time went by, Rose grew up and turned 25 years old. She met her Mr. Right during her time in college. His name was Jack, and he was tall and handsome. More importantly, he was a gentleman and treated Rose very well. They fell in love with each other quickly.
In the beginning, they spend most of their time together at school. However, Rose’s parents found out about their relationship eventually. Rose’s parents thought Jack was just a poor boy who didn’t deserve her, and they didn’t want her contacting him again. Rose wasn’t allowed to see Jack again, and she was very sad and upset. After learning about her parent’s reaction, Jack tried to meet Rose’s parents, to talk them out of this decision, but they wouldn’t see him.
Time went by, and Jack was sad every day (he couldn’t even eat anything). He couldn’t see Rose, and didn’t even know where she was. Rose’s parents told him they had taken her abroad. Many days and nights passed. Jack discovered that he had cancer, and his death was quite sudden.
After hearing about Jack’s death, Rose was inconsolable. The news of it shattered her heart and annihilated her spirit. Rose went mad. She forgot everything but Jack. She only remembered their love story. Maybe this is a happy ending for her, because, in her madness, she never had to feel sad, and never remembered that Jack was dead and gone.

The Gorge
There is a beautiful girl named Monica. She is 20 years old, and is studying tourism in college. She comes from a very happy family, so she is optimistic and outgoing. She loves nature and travel. She can forget all unhappy things when she stands on the top of a mountain.
Monica has a handsome boyfriend, Zip. Unfortunately, Zip didn’t like travel at all. But, they loved each other, and they had a plan to go to a wonderful place, a bug gorge, on graduation day.
However, when that special day had almost arrived, Zip changed his mind. He apologized to Monica, and told her than he had fallen in love with another girl, so they had to break up. Monica was angry, because she didn’t want to lose him. She had changed a lot for him. She gave up her travel plans, because he had told her that he wanted her to spend more time with him. She still loved him, and if she had to choose between Zip and travel, she would have chosen Zip.
She felt ridiculous now. She gave up her dream of travel for him, and he gave up her. For a month, she was disappointed and sad with life. Then, day by day, she begins to feel better, and start to see that to truly love a person is to wish them happiness. Monica wishes Zip to be happy, and she has come to understand that they aren’t suitable for each other. It’s better for her to let him go.
Monica decided to let go of the sad memories too, and to find a way to cheer herself up. She went to visit the big gorge alone. She took a deep breath, and felt so happy and relaxed. She learned to cherish her moments alone, and search for her own fulfillment.

Love is like candied fruit, and is the journey of life.
In the past,
I always want to hold your hand and have a lasting relationship with you.

When I am with you, I can be myself.
If the distance between us is 100 paces,
as long as you are willing to take one step,
the remaining 99 steps I would walk for you.
The little prince only loves his rose.
Snow White only belongs to the kiss of true love.
I only belong to you.
In the future,
with our white hair, we will
hold hands, be carefree, watch at the hothouse flowers bloom,
the clouds drift across the sky,
willing that true love from the bottom of our hearts can grow into a lotus of Zen.

Dishonest Love
Jason and Elena are a pair of lovers, and they love each other deeply. However, it wasn’t like this at first, of course.
Elena is a kind, but materialistic girl. Because she’s from a poor family, as she was growing up her parents always told her she must marry a rich man. She agreed with them. When she first met Jason, her boss, she thought he would make a good husband, for this reason. She began to create opportunities to see him and work with him. Jason began to fall in love with her, little by little.
In the beginning, Elena became his girlfriend just for his money, but after spending a lot of time with him, she found Jason to be a very humorous, mature, and understanding man. They had a good time together, and she came to love him.
Unfortunately, two year later Elena was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. They were planning to get married, but she would not live long after the wedding. Elena felt sad and hopeless, and she was afraid that Jason would be unhappy to be married to such a sick person. She decided to break up with him, and find a place where he could never find her. So, she went to a remote mountain village to spend the rest of her short, lonely life.
As for Jack, he couldn’t live without her. After Elena left, he was hopeless and confused. He asked everyone about her, but found nothing. He looked for her everywhere, even where the Kung Fu people live, and finally got a clue from a local person. He flew there immediately, and met her by the seaside. When he saw her, he couldn’t help crying and running to her. Elena cried and smiled at the same time, and realized the power of their love. They hugged each other, as if time had no end.

True Friendship
Jenny is a beautiful girl who is 23 years old. She comes from a one-child family. Her family is very rich, but her parents are too busy running their business to spend time with her. Jenny had a good friend, but that friend went abroad to study. So, Jenny feels very lonely. She graduated from a famous college, and after graduation she got a job at a company and became an editor. She likes reading very much, and loves to be around books every day.
One day, Jenny’s boss let her write her own book about nature. She only had two weeks to do it, and it was a challenge for her. She stayed in her study room day and night. She read many books about nature, and when she found something she didn’t understand, she would ask for help from her coworker.
Jenny had written some books before…such as the story of the sky, the story of different animals, and different lands of the world, but none of these books made her feel satisfied. While trying to write this new book, she felt so worried. She couldn’t find any inspiration, and fell into confusion.
During this time, her coworker Eric discovered how much trouble she was having. He decided to help her. His advice was to leave the building and go into nature, to find the beauty of nature. He took her to the park, and they breathed in the fresh air. They drove to the forest to listen to the sounds of nature. Jenny heard the song of birds, the music of the stream, and the sounds of animals moving about. She saw the blue sky, full of beautiful flying birds. She felt the wonder of nature around her. She found inspiration, and was very excited.
Finally, she finished writing the book on time. Her boss was very happy with it, and thought well of her. The book was welcomed by the public, and Jenny became very famous because of it. She was very thankful for Eric’s help. They became good friends, and Jenny learned how valuable a true, caring friend can be. While you’re going through it, you must look around yourself and see exactly who it is that’s rallying behind you.

The Lonely Bride
Rose is a graceful and beautiful girl. She was born into a very rich family. Her father loves her, and arranges everything for her. Since her childhood, she has always listened to everything her father said.
Father: “Dear, which major will you choose? What about a specialty in finance?”
Daughter: “That’s good, Dad. I will choose it.”
Father: “Dear, you will graduate soon…what about working in my company?”
Daughter: “Ok Dad, I will work there.”
Father: “Dear, you have already grown up. What about meeting someone I have selected for you?”
Daughter: “Um…I’m afraid I can’t do that.”
Father: “What?! What’s wrong with you?”
Daughter: “I already met a man that I love.”
She had met a man, and perfect man, she thought. She wants to get married to him, so she cannot obey her father this time. Her father knows this, and gets very angry. He thinks that this man his daughter loves is undeserving of her.
Father: “You can’t marry him unless I die.”
Daughter: “Dad, please. I love him.”
Father: “It’s impossible.”
Though her father stoutly opposes, they still want to be a couple. They plot a wedding together. Rose thought that wedding would be successful, but when she put on the beautiful wedding dress, her father heard the news of it and had a heart attack. Because of this, in the same day, her father’s company loses most of its value. Rose was very sad, and wanted her fiancée to be there for here during this hard time.
Rose: “Dear, my father is in the hospital. Can you go with me to take care of him?”
Fiancée: “He has lost all his wealth. Now you are useless. I have never loved you.”
Rose learned that her fiancée only wanted her for her future inheritance. She felt guilty. She had lost everything. Now all she can do is wait for her father to awaken, and beg his forgiveness.
Daughter: “Dad, I hope you wake up soon. I promise that I will obey you and be a well-behaved girl. I promise.”
It’s impossible for a person to meet the right partner accidentally. Reality will defeat romance in the end.

The Princess and the Pigeon
Once upon a time, there was a poor princess. Her father remarried, and her new stepmother came to live with them. Her father and stepmother didn’t pay attention to her. She had no friends. Even her little stepbrother often offended her. She was lonely.
One day, she saved an injured pigeon. She played with it every day, and became happier and happier with her new friend. Her stepbrother hated her smile, so he ordered his servant to steal the pigeon.
The pigeon was very angry, and attacked the bad prince, ruining his face. Then the pigeon flew away. The queen was mad. She decided to kill the princess by fire.
When the princess was about to be burned to death, a flock of pigeons flew to her rescue. They put out the fire by flapping their wings, and scratched the queen and the prince until both of them died.
The princess was too weak to run away, so she sat on the back of the pigeon king, and they all flew away together.

True Love
I am an ordinary girl who studies at Nanyang Normal University. I have a sunny and positive disposition. I do love sports. Sporting is my true love.
Many people think that basketball is a man’s activity, but I object to that opinion. As a girl, I often play basketball on the court in my spare time.
In my P.E. class, I practice Tai chi, which can cultivate one’s morality
And I can play billiards.
Sports not only build my body up, but they also purify my mind. Exercise is my true love.

Angelic Hearts
“What a fine day. Get up, old chap…it’s so rare that I get up earlier than you, haha,” Daniel says, with his calloused hands touching Alexander’s head. Alexander is the only family he has left. His name comes from his daughter’s, Alexandra. Alexander wakes up, shaking his head and rubbing it against Daniel’s hand.
After a simple breakfast, they get ready to go. “Let’s go, boy…time to begin our journey,” says Daniel. He’s a mountaineering enthusiast, so this is a normal day for him. He resigned from his middle school teaching job five years ago, and now travels and hikes every day. Daniel and Alexander are the most in-tune partners. They’ve experienced many fantastically fun adventures, and have enjoyed a lot of beautiful scenery.
Today, Daniel and Alexander are setting out for their next destination. It’s a magical late which can bring people back to the past, to give them a chance to make up for their regrets. Daniel is realistic, and doesn’t believe in this magic. But, his daughter Alexandra did. She had always been keen on these sorts of mystical things. He had no idea what was in his daughter’s head, but her sense of wonder and adventure was something she had inherited from her father.
Five years ago, Daniel had had a beautiful wife. They had fallen in love at first sight, and lived happily together for a long time. Their only regret in life was that they had no child. After fifteen years of marriage, they finally had a baby, Alexandra. When Alexandra was four, Daniel noticed that there were some differences between her and other children. As it turned out, she suffered from a rare disease.
Daniel was devastated, but he never gave up on her. He found that she enjoyed amazing stories, so he told her one every day. Over the rest of her short life, her body continued to deteriorate. One day, she finally left the world.
Daniel and his wife were very sad. Daniel started drinking, and didn’t pay attention to anything else. His wife couldn’t be around him anymore, and left him. Now, there were only Daniel and Alexander left.
Alexander was a stray dog that Alexandra had wanted to keep. She saw the black dog, and said that it was an angel. “Can I feed it, Dad?” she has asked.
“Of course,” he said. The dog had been part of their family ever since.
Daniel remembered how much Alexandra had loved adventure stories. Her eyes would shine when he would tell them to her. So, Daniel had decided that he would travel, have adventures, and bring Alexandra’s wishes to life.
He preferred to believe that Alexandra could see these experiences in paradise. He felt that she was there with him and Alexander on their adventures. As he starts off on this new trip with his daughter’s memory and his daughter’s dog, Daniel says, “you are my angel, Alexandra, and you too, Alexander. Let’s go!”

True Love Lasts Forever
When I was young, I asked my parents, "what is true love?”
They were patient, and gave me the answer that, “true love is you and us.”
They smiled, but I just looked at them shaking my head.
When I got a bit older, I never asked that question to my parents.
They often reminded me to study hard. I became more and more rebellious,
and I didn't listen what my parents said.
There were countless papers to do every day, so I suffered from the endless pressure and pain. At that time, I only had a thought to leave home in my mind.
When I was of age, I entered college.
I went far away from home and slowly adapted to living my own life,
without my parents’ company, care, warnings, or encouragement.
Everything depended on me.
When I lost confidence and had a desire to cry, all I could do is to call my parents to chat. Gradually, I discovered that I was wrong to ever want to leave home.
But, no matter what, I still needed to be independent and live by myself.

Predestined Love
Sharon was very stressed, and she wanted to do something interesting to relax. She decided to go and travel for a long time, because she enjoys this kind of experience very much. She handed in the last of her work to her manager, and finally set off on the road.
Along the way, she had a taste of the different cultures, customs, and habits of different regions. One day, when she returned to her hotel, she realized her wallet has been stolen. She felt like the world was falling apart. Fortunately, her phone wasn’t stolen. She went to her room to think. She had enough money to live on for only one week now. She didn’t want her family to know about her situation. She wanted to handle the problem herself, so she decided to find a job where she was.
She went looking for work with confidence, but no one was willing to hire her. She felt hopeless. Then, a gentleman appeared. It felt like a dream. He helped her. He brought her to a restaurant, and found a part-time job for her there. She was very grateful to him.
She worked there for a few days, and then one day it rained as she was leaving work. She didn’t have an umbrella, so she prepared to run back to the hotel in the rain. The gentleman appeared again, and came up to her with an umbrella. At that moment, she admitted to herself that he was very handsome.
Gradually, they became good friends. When she earned enough money, she was ready to continue travelling. The man, Jack, decided to go with her.
Now, they’re married. Jack is the one who helped her through her most difficult times. While they watch the sunset one evening, Sharon asks him, “Why did you help me that day?”
Jack answered, “Because I knew you were the one I was meant to be with.”

The Girl and the Owl
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl living in the forest. She liked to play there. But, as time went by, she noticed the forest was becoming bleak. The trees, flowers, and grasses were all dying. The girl was so worried.
One day, she ran into the middle of the forest. Suddenly, she met an owl. The owl stared at her for a long time, and cried from time to time. Then, the owl flew to her shoulder, as if it was asking her for help.
The girl was so upset, and she knew that she must do something. She wanted to try her best to save the forest. So, she watered the trees, flowers, and grasses with the owl every day, but after a few months, there was still no change.
The girl was so sad that she cried loudly. Her tears blew down the land. Suddenly, the grasses, trees, and flowers all came back to life! The girl was so excited, and she began to run to the owl. The owl sang a very sweet song, and then turned into a handsome man. The hugged each other.
The man told the girl how he became an owl. He was changed by a witch, and could only change back when the world became lively and beautiful again. The two of them lived happily together, and protected the land forever.

Fortunately Alice
Alice was born in Paris in the 19thcentury. Her family was very poor and could not afford school fees, so she couldn’t get an education. However, Alice like creating things very much…especially designing clothes.
When she was a little child, she noticed that all the women wore similar, heavy dresses. She thought that she could design similar or better things, and that it may be good for her future. So, she started creating her own designs.
By the time she was fifteeen years old, she has designed a lot of distinctive clothing. She always wore them when she went out. Since she had no money, her clothes were made with old or cheap material, so few people paid close attention.
Alice saved her money, and when she turned eighteen, she was able to buy some expensive material. She went to a dance, wearing a beautiful red dress (of her own design, of course). She attracted many admirers, including Jim, a Count from a very rich family. Jim fell in love with her at that dance, and soon asked her, “Would you like to be my girlfriend? If you say yes to me, I’ll be very happy.”
After some though, she said yes. The became lovers, but two months later, Alice found that Jim had another girlfriend as well. Alice was very angry and sad, she cried at Jim, “I do not love you anymore, go away!” Their relationship ended.
Alice continued pursuing her dream of designing clothes. After a long time, and a lot of hard work, she had designed a mountain of beautiful clothes. Then, a company took a fancy to her designs, and offtered her a job.
In this company, one of the managers helped her develop her talents. The manager got many famous models to wear Alice’s clothes, and people started to admire her work more and more. She eventually became a great designer, and fell in love with the manager who believed in her. She found him to be her true love, so they were married and lived a happy and successful life together.

Adventure of Love
Owen wanted freedom, so he gave up his wealth and quit his job. He was going to travel. He wanted to climb the higest snowy mountain in the world. But he did not want to go alone, so he sent a public invitation for travel partners to a magazine. He thought it might get someone to go with him.
Kara was an editor. She liked to travel. One day, she saw Owen’s invitation in the magazine. She wanted to explore with this guy who also liked to climb mountains.
Kara got Owen’s phone number from the magazine, and then she got in touch with him. They found that they had many things in common, and their conversations together were good, so they decided to climb together.
It was a sunny day, but there was a strong wind on the way to the top of the mountain. They climbed for a long time. The scenery was beautiful. Soon night fell, and the wind got even crazier. They found a place to pitch the tent, and they got a fire going. The smell of their food attracted two wolves. Kara was so scared that she shouted. Wolves were howling.
Suddenly, they heard the sound of an avalanche coming. When they realized what was happening, it was too late, and they were covered by snow. Then everything was silent.
When they woke up, it was the next morning. Fortunately, their injuries were not very serious. Owen ripped up his red shirt, and made a big sign that said “SOS.” They sat down and waited for a helicopter to come and save them. Luckily, they were kissed by fortune, and were soon rescued.
Of course, they fell in love with each other after they survived this near-death experience together. They went on to do much more climbing together, and learned and experiences much more about the mountains of the world.

Jimmy’s Dream
I have a friend names Jimmy. He looks like an easygoing and relaxed person, but he had an unfortunate childhood. Let me tell you the story of this boy.
In 1990, he was born in Canada. His father was a lawyer, and his mother was a teacher. When he was born, his parents were very happy. They decided to make him become an excellent lawyer, like his father. So, they were strict with him. They made a daily schedule for him. He had to follow the schedule and get everything done. In the beginning, he was obedient and his parents were very satisfied with him. They never quarreled until one day, when he climbed a small mountain with his friends.
That day, his friends asked him to join them, and after one hour they were standing at the top. As he stood there, Jimmy felt a peacefulness that he had never felt before. At that moment, a seed was planted in his heart. “I’ll stand on the highest mountain in the world and look over everything,” he thought to himself.
When he went back home, he told his new idea to his parents, but they were strongly against it. Jimmy felt very depressed, but he could do nothing but obey his parents. As time went by, the seed in his heart grew bigger and bigger; the idea became stronger and stronger. Finally, he decided that he couldn’t wait to live this dream. So, he talks to his parents about it again, but the result wasn’t different.
He told his parents, “You can’t stop my dream! I will achieve what I want to. From now on, I will do what I want to do, and I will be my own master.”
His father’s face turned red, and he said “Get out! I don’t want to see you again!”
Jimmy picked up his bag and left without hesitation. In the street, he looked up at the sky. It was so blue, so sunny, and the air was so fresh. He walked away, and started to chase his dream.

Kate is a British princess. She was born in the imperial household, and she got the best education at the University of Cambridge. Her dad died when she was a baby, and her mother was very strict about every part of Kate’s life. She lacked the love of both a father and a mother.
In addition to this, she also had to deal with some political pressure…people were always watching what she did, and how she behaved. As a member of the royal family, she had to be careful about everything. She became cold, always keeping calm in every situation.
However, one day she met a man who broke her calm. She fell in love with him at first sight. He was tall, courageous, and handsome, and his name was William. She would always remember the day they first met. He stood by a river, looking up at the sky. His blue eyes were like the deep water, and they attracted the princess. She never saw a man with such a feeling of quiet melancholy. She thought he was just like her. Gradually, he fell in love with her too.
But, the truth was that she didn’t know this man’s identity at all. He was the son of a politician in a rival party. The man’s father wanted the princess to lose some of her fame. So, he asked his son to get close to her. The man had fallen in real love with the princess though, and was moved by her character and sincerity. Finally, William told Kate the truth. He helped her to win the love of the people, instead of his father. When their story became public, is father was sent to prison for conspiracy, and William went off to distant lands.
The princess had succeeded in take back her power, but she missed William. From then on, whenever she goes to the river where they first met, she always thinks of the man she loved so deeply.

An Old Farmer
There was an old farmer, living in a poor village surrounded by tall mountains. He had three children. When his children were very young, his wife died of a serious sickness. Regardless of how hard his life became after that, he always made sure his children went to school and studied hard. He worked very hard on the land. Every morning he got up early, and every night he went to bed late.
As time went by, his children grew up and went to live good lives in a big, crowded city. Every one of them wanted to move their father to the city, to rest and enjoy the rest of his life. But, he always refused.
He loved the land that had raised him and given his family life. Also, he thought we would not get used to life in the big city. He liked nature, freedom, grain, especially his corn. Although he still worked from morning until dusk, he was very satisfied when he went to bed each day. He believed he could continue living on his own.
In autumn, when he saw the beautiful yellow colors, the sign of harvest time, he was very happy. He was a farmer. The field was all his life and hopes.

The question was what “true love” is. I didn't know the answer then.
Now seven years have passed,
and I know the answer.
These are five signs of true love, in my eyes…
1. Someone makes you laugh when you are in pain.
2. Someone cheers you up when you are upset.
3. Someone gives you a hand when you are in need.
4. Someone shares happiness with you, not sadness.
5. Someone has been with you, always.
There’s a lot of advice about “true love,”
but this is what true love is, to me.
