Here is the fourth issue of our literary magazine, the theme of which is “My First Class in College”. We have more nice essays, stories, poems, and art this time……because we have more excellent participants from many more departments of our university this time!

My First Class in College

Time flies! I have spent three years in Nanyang Normal University. During the three years of college life I have learnt a variety of interesting courses. However, which impress me profoundly is “Writing”. Yet up to this day I can’t forget the moment when I firstly studied this course, I was fed up with it. Thanks to Ms. Teng, I found the significance of learning Chinese literature and envisaged it in the first place.

Time was traced to the first class when I met Ms. Teng. It was a raining day; I found a graceful woman came in the classroom. She introduced herself and told us some common sense about Chinese literature. Her patience and expertise led us to a sagacious way. We harvest not only the knowledge but also the learning skills.

First and last, Ms. Teng had left behind the narrow, ignorant world of our youths to join the brand new world ever since she taught us in a special way. Therefore, I think writing is the most impressing course for me in campus.

My First Class in College

It’s very glad for me to enter the university. There are many interesting and meaningful things attracted me. But, the most impressive one is the first class.

The first class is the history of Chinese modern literature, which related the development of Chinese literature. My teacher is a handsome and humorous man. In the beginning, he told us some skills about the course, which is read more books and practice writing. Then, he introduced several important persons in the history of literature, such as Lu Xun, Mao Dun and so on. In the end, he told us of his schooling and some events in his life. What’s more, he gave us two significant suggests what he considered. First, choose a course that interests us. Second, keep exercise to have a healthy body.

The teacher not only concerns our life but also our life, I think he is a good teacher and I like his class.

My First Class in College

In the past, I often imagined what my college is like. But now, I expect my first class in college.

In my first class, I was filled with joy because it is my favorite English class. But when we began the class I was corrupted, because I can’t understand what the teacher was talking about. I thought I would be distraught about the college English. If I looked around, I found my classmates didn’t know what the teacher was talking. When I saw most people sleeping, I thought they were playing poker in the dream.

After the teacher got to know our condition, she slowed down her speech and translated it in Chinese at the same time. After a moment, although my classmates can understand something, I was still confused.

Then, the teacher played a recording what an American was talking about some strange experience in China. Obviously, I didn’t know what he was talking about. I started the sleepwalking state.

I didn’t understand what the teacher said until the lesson had been completed. After class, I released our souls with my classmates and we felt relaxed. Even now I can’t understand at all, but I will try to learn it. So I won’t waste time. As the proverb goes: “Action speak louder than words.”

Still remember the bright sunshine of the school year. Yes, I was a college student.

Through the grueling military training we began our real college life. Even though I still remember the humor of the teacher and the vitality of my classmates. In the first class, the teacher did not give a direct lecture but instead taught us how to adapt to college life and become a better self in college.

We all listened to the prospect of college life and become a better self in college. Of course, I want to be good so in college I will try to be better myself.

Well begun is half done, as the saying goes. So, I really hope to have a good start in my college life. My first class was military training. The first few days were tough. The instructor’s whistle was ringing all the time. The head of the sun, at the foot of hot stone, the airtight clothes and drillmaster’s stern face, took us from the parents coddle completely pulled up. After a lot of sweat, military training was coming to an end. But when we practiced playing the goose step, the instructor asked us to fix it. It must be more than ten minutes. At that time I also once mercilessly cursed instructors in the heart, but now, I really regret. Instructors not only taught us how to military training, but also taught us a lot of truth in life. I understand that perseverance is victory over the military training. No matter what problems I will meet in the future, I think I can overcome it.

Thanks for the military training, thank our instructors. I believe that my college life will get better and better.

After a long summer holiday, my college life started in School of Marxism of Nanyang Normal University.

Other 44 students and I were divided into class one —— my first college class.

Destiny that ties people together is magnetic and seductive. Even though we are from different parts of china which were separated far apart, we still got together to spend our golden time.

I feel warm from what my classmates do for me. When I was in poor state of health, they cared for me with sufficient patience. When I was in low spirits, they cheer me up at once. When faced with some challenges, I hesitated to make up my mind. They gave me huge courage to push the envelope. Teachers here were also spotless.

The next four years will go at an increasingly accelerated pace. We must make use of everyday of those years. We still have a long way to go. But I believe in the strength of ours ——forever class one.

My First Class in College

So far, I have been studying in college for one year. I still remember clearly my first class in college.

The first class is not a normal class. It is named “Bilingual Training Activity”. It is similar to an evening party where have a question-master and some participants taking part in three programs, i.e. an English speech, a comic dialogue and an opusculum.

The first program was an English speech. The participants shared an inspiration story with us. The second program was a comic dialogue created by Yue Yunpeng. It was so funny that we couldn’t help laughing. The last program was an opusculum, created by Da Bing. We felt excited in this class.

I think that “Bilingual Training Activity” is very meaningful and interesting. It offers us more opportunities to practice our ability to use the two languages.

When it comes to college life, I always look forward to it. In my view, college is an important turning point in the pursuit of my dreams. As soon as I set foot into the new school gate, I was aware that a challenging journey began and I found that the college life is a unique life.

I still remember my first college class was the Introduction to science of law. My heart was full of expectation and curiosity. As the bell rang, the teacher came in with a warm smile. After a brief and clear self-introduction, he started the lesson and told us about the subject which we have never learned–––the introduction to science of law. I listened to the teacher carefully so that I could understand the subject better. Meanwhile, I took notes logically. When the teacher requested us to discuss fiercely, I took part in positively. I thought that I acquired lots of knowledge which was fresh.

In my view, the first class is a significant class which deserves to be memorized profoundly. College life is an important period when I can improve myself in different ways. I would like to spare no efforts to live a splendid college life.

It has been almost two months since I came to school which named college. It is really means a lot when you go to college school.

The first thing quite different form high school is the class mainly depends on our self-consciousness. No more pressure. No more superposition. But more freedom. I think it is necessary that we pay more energy for study.

The schoolyard’s scenery is so beautiful that it’s worthy walking when you are tired. The dormitory is better than before, but it also makes you a homeboy, it’s important to go to library when there is not more classes. When I was young, I began to fantasize about my college life. Now, I’m a college student. For me, this is a new life. I’ll never forget my first class in college.

My first class was math class, which was Thursday afternoon. Before class I was very excited. My classmates were as excited as me. When we arrived at class, we found that many people had come, with an eager face. “So many students’ feelings were just as same as mine”, I thought.

Actually, my math is not very good in high school, so I was a little worried about that. Finally, after class, it’s a surprise that I had learnt a lot in an easy mode, which made me very excited.

With the same dream and the same desire, we have gathered together from different areas of China. Faced with the innumerable strange faces, it suddenly occurs to me that I have been a college student, a student who has to learn how to be independent, and how to integrate into this big group.

It was the September 11th that we began our first class in college—military training. Looking back on the first day of military training, the instructors wore primly severe military uniforms, their hair were primly cut and primly combed. As they passed the rostrum, they shouted the slogan confidently and loudly. My heart was full of excitement and amazement, dreamed that I could become an excellent soldier like them.

Nevertheless, I soon found the meaning of military training was not simple. The instructors patiently taught us time and time again; did they only teach these simple acts? No, they were inculcating a way of being a man and an attitude of facing the challenges.

As the saying goes ‘no cross, no crown', the sunshine always comes after the storm and is waiting for us.

Military training is such an unforgettable experience. It’s a memory worth preserving forever.

Before I come to the university, I had some wonderful fantasy, but the reality gave me “double kill” over and over.

Firstly, I would like to meet some roommate in the same cape, but the reality gave me a mixed room and unsatisfactory roommates, which let me very upset. To be honest, I didn’t prepare to go to college alone. Suddenly, I couldn’t meet my parents’ weekly just like before. And I had to deal with everything about myself. The other day, I cried and called my mom and asked to go home. The reason for this is that I couldn’t adapt the college life. So I always feel lonely.

All of the above, I couldn’t change it. After many times crying, I accepted everything. Gradually, I found that my roommates are kind and warm-hearted. Although I’m far away from my parents, I begin to learn how to live alone. I can learn many interesting things and I am more interested in taking part in many activities. When I am alone, I can do what I like to do.

Now I’ve already adapted to the college life. And I will forever remember my first college class. When you are unable to change something you should accept it.

I still remembered the day when I first came to the college. Being a girl of 18, I was longing for a new life as a college student; at the same time, I had no idea about what college life should be like.

After the college entrance examination, I chose to study in Nanyang Normal University. What impressed me was the first class here. In the evening, I was so excited that I didn’t want to go to bed.

My first class in college is military training, which is the most stressful thing for me. However, I know what I can do is to face it by myself bravely. When the sun was shining brightly, I told myself in heart that I have the belief to overcome it. Finally, I really did it. Ten days later, our military training ended, but this experience makes me realize that as long as you make up your mind to do it, nothing can’t be conquered. At the same time, this kind of spirit will encourage me to do everything without any fear.

In life, I think as a college student, I should challenge many things like military training. Not only does it keep us healthy, but also train our will. Thus, we can be a qualified college student. Finally, I want to say it is necessary and important for us to face everything bravely.

My first class in college is higher mathematics, which is said that many students failed to pass it every year. When I attended the math class, I found that it is so difficult that I couldn’t understand it entirely.

Our math teacher is a woman, who is very gentle and easy-going. In our math class, she will repeat the knowledge again and again to make her students better understand, and have a better command of it.

Differently, teachers here will not keep an eye on me as they did in the middle school, so I will spare my free time to review the knowledge which was said in class. What’s more, before the class, I also should prepare for lessons.

I do hope I can pass the lesson in the term examination through my effort. I also believe I can make it!

With the end of high school, I become a college student. And I have learned a lot in college. But my first lesson in college came from military training.

As is known to us, the first thing is military training when we become college students. Military training can not only strengthen the body but also train the will of the people. And there's growing evidence that it helps the brain too.

With vision and expectations of the dream we came to Nanyang Normal University, we receive the benefit of the teacher's knowledge, but this is different from what we did in secondary school because we have so much free time to arrange in accordance with our own wish.

My first class in college is to know and learn how to study independently. Self-study is a process that we gain knowledge or skills by our personal effort without others' instruments. Only in this way can we make progress in our study.

Let’s take English study as an example. In addition to normal school arrangements, self-study in our spare time and reading a lot of extra-curricular books is a matter of cardinal significance. But this important factor is always scanted by most of us. As plain as the nose on your face, listening to teachers attentively in class and reciting sample articles are far from necessary. Learning English is struggle but it's worth it.

Youth is a matter of the will and vigor of the emotions. Stop using the Internet and your time to chat and play games. Try to do more valuable and useful things like self-study to make our life more surefooted and sureness.

This summer, I was formally admitted as a college student, my school was situated in a place where far away from home. After a long trip, I finally settled in the classroom, and I started to recall what I had experienced, I felt like a dream.

In my point of view, stepping into a university equals confronting with various difficulties that might frustrate us on our own. Therefore, I told myself to be stronger, reliable and hard-working.

There is no doubt that the first class means a lot for a new student. When the bell rang, a young teacher came into my view; I was amazed because she just looked like a member of us. She had a pointed chin, and her long hair fell over her shoulders, She wore a school uniform with a white neckties which made her nothing like a teacher, all of us were confused, then she smiled warmly and made a simple self-introduction, as a new teacher, she was trying to be calm but I could see she was a little nervous.

She patiently told us that the true meaning of university is to steer our hearts to fulfillment, and it is students’ obligation to attend class and develop abilities which might lead to a better life. In this class, I acquired some skills which enable us to have a good grasp of English grammar and listening, and I also realized that we should apply what we have learned into practice.

I was impressed by this class, because it made me feel that, through hard working, I might also become a person our teacher defined as a “true college student”, and I have prepared to face to all the challenges in the following years.

I have been in the Nanyang Normal University for one year. But I still remember the confusion when I went to the university. The first class for me in college may not be a real lesson. It's a journey of self -exploration.

For 18 years, I have never left home and lived independently. So, when I was far away from my parents, I felt good and thought that I was independent. Soon I realized I was too young and too simple.

“When you go to college, you will be relaxed.’’ That’s the biggest lie that a middle school teacher has ever told us. The university life is sometimes very busy, busy but rather baffling. At the beginning, I took part in all the activities, but gradually I found that I had no gains, and they even affected my study. And then I decided to take part in the activity selectively, which enriched my college life and increased my experience. I’m not aimless anymore, which has benefited me a lot.

I began to discover and understand my interests, talents, resources and find my strengths and my shortcomings. A year later, I became better.

So, I think that the first lesson in college was to teach me how to be a better man. A university is where you go to find yourself, know yourself, and choose what kind of person you will be in the future.

This summer, I was formally admitted by this college, when I arrived at campus everything I saw was very different from what I pictured in mind.

What impressed me most was that teachers in college are not only kind but also modest. My first class in college is called Military Training, which strengthened my body and made me know that I could be a person who is totally different from the old me, and I did a good job in the tough training.

After training, I found that my self-confidence has been enhanced. When I had to confront difficulties, my mindset shifted from “Sorry, maybe I can’t…”to “I’ll have a try!” Thanks to the first class in college---Military Training, I have seen a better me.

The first class I had for my specialized studying was mathematical analysis. Before having this class, I heard that the knowledge of mathematics taught in college was difficult to master, but I did not quite keep that in heart, however, after finishing the first class, I was confused and I realized that what I heard from others was true. It really was a challenging subject. However, I was willing to be challenged.

“Where there is a will, there is a way”. In order to have a better grasp of those subjects, I did preview work before lessons, and spent a lot of time in practicing after class. By doing so, I found it a lot easier that it was at beginning.

I have already adapted to my new life, thanks to what I had experienced, it made me believed that I would have chance to achieve my goal in the following four years.

How time flies! As a freshman, I went to college in an exciting mood. There was no doubt that my first class gave me a deep impression.

When I entered the university, I was so excited, because everything is new to me, and I will experience a new beginning of life. When I sat in the new classroom with a worried heart, I wondered who the teacher of the first lesson in college was. What did she look like? Finally, the teacher came, she was young, and she said she was a computer teacher, and then she said the rules of her class. I guess she will be a fine and severe teacher. Three months of summer vacation is over, I come to the NanYang Normal University and become a freshman. Facing the new environment, I feel I can’t adapt to it very well. College life is not as easy as it’s supposed to be. In the strange environment, without any friends, I have to learn to be independent.

As time goes by, we experience military training and evening party that welcome the new students. Finally, in the third week, we usher the first class in the University which is the English lesson.

When I walk into the classroom, I’m surprised find that the classroom of university is more bigger than the high school. After calling the roll, our English teacher enters into the class with a hand of book, looks like very gentle and full of knowledge. Just as we expected, our English teacher is very humorous and make a boring language become interesting. Also, the atmosphere is very easy and relax and less constrain more free.

University life is colorful, full of possibilities. Four year’ time is disappear in a flash, cherish time, never give up.

College life is what every student dreams of. I had looked forward to the coming of college life for a long time. I was so delighted that I smiled constantly for the whole day, when I came to school with my luggage on Sept. 7, 2017.

What’s more, it is easier to get acquainted with more people. There is no doubt that, I make friends with a great many people from different regions, who are lovely, humorous, gentle, womanly or ambitious. Not only are we all in a daze about university life, but also we are all full of expectation for the first class.

As time went on, the first lesson, the military training, came. The hard training made me realize that we must learn to persevere and be strong. Although I often complained during the training, I couldn’t bear to say goodbye to military training and drillmaster, because this period of time is such an unforgettable experience, which is a memory worthy of treasuring for ever.

Going through military training, I learned to be quiet, to think, to persevere, and to learn to adapt to college life. I think it’s the most meaningful lesson I’ve ever had, and it will be a life-time benefit.

With the completion of the college entrance examination and the arrival of the admission notice, my college life is beginning.

The first lesson of the college was surprising, because it was Marxism. I have to say that the atmosphere in college is really different. Though the hundreds of students sitting under the rostrum, the teacher seemed to be a gold lecturer and a 90-minute class that was reasonable, lively and interesting. As a liberal arts student, although the content of the class had already well learned in high school, I was still lose myself in the interesting teaching.

After knowing my scores of the entrance examination of college, I was in the face of making a hard decision of where to go. It is widely known to us that Nanyang Normal University has the very beautiful scenery and a long history. So I made up my mind to realize my dream of being a game designer in such a charming place.

You know what I remembered the most about the first lesson? The first lesson I had to learn in college, as a matter of fact, was to live independently. After sending me into campus, my father and mother went away, living me alone in this brand new environment. I walked back to my dormitory then threw myself on the bed, the feeling of loneliness suddenly surrounded me. I didn’t know what to do. I’m starting to miss the days at home.

As time marches on, I am already a sophomore. When it comes to my first class in college, I am filled with emotions.

In my eyes, my first class in college is not English, not Higher Mathematics or Physics, but military training. It’s bitter and tiring, different from the military training in senior high schools. Drillmasters were very strict with us, and our school checked dormitory sanitation repeatedly. The student union requested that the dormitories were free of any dust, or we would get a warning even a punishment.

I thought cleaning dormitory was more tiring than training. We could have only a four-or-five-hour sleep every day. After dormitory cleaning, we would go to the training. Sometimes we couldn’t even have breakfast. Every day we got trained under the hot sun, even we should be exposed to the rain when it rained. This kind of life was like a nightmare. Time in senior high school was not as torturing as then!

I complained a lot. Since I was already a college student, why should I suffer such an abnormal life? However, my mum told me that our academic records and learning methods had already fallen behind those students in better colleges. If we couldn’t tidy up the dormitory, we were going to get even further backward. Indeed, our training was much more relaxing than soldiers.
