报告摘要:
What can numbers tell us about the living world? From tropical rivers to northern lakes, ecological data reveal stories about how life changes under human influence. In this talk, Dr. Caio Graco-Roza—originally from Brazil and now a researcher at the University of Helsinki in Finland—will take us on a journey through global ecosystems seen through the lens of ecological modelling. We will explore how statistical models help detect population declines in fish, understand how environmental heterogeneity shapes the diversity of river phytoplankton, and uncover a hidden global trend: the homogenisation of biodiversity under human pressure. Combining ecology and statistics, this talk invites students to see how modelling transforms field observations into insights about the planet’s future—and how numbers can give nature a voice.
