From November 1 to 2, the 8th National University Canoeing Championships were held on the west bank of the Canal in Tongzhou District, Beijing. Led by coaches Liu Xishan and Wang Man, our university’s kayak team secured the results through great dedication and by defeating tough opponents, ultimately claiming the championship in the Men’s Group C-B 500m Single Kayak (the highest-level category) and the runner-up position in the Men’s Group C-B 1000m Single Kayak.
Organized by the China Student Sports Federation and the People’s Government of Tongzhou District, Beijing, this competition attracted over 200 outstanding athletes from 27 universities, including Zhejiang University, Sun Yat-sen University, and Xiamen University. Guan Dongxu from our university stood out with his exceptional physical fitness, superb technique, and tenacious fighting spirit. This achievement not only affirms his personal efforts but also fully demonstrates our university’s commitment to fostering talents through the “five aspects of education” (moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education).
In recent years, Nanyang Normal University has deeply explored the multifaceted educational value of sports competitions in its connotative construction, achieving remarkable successes in the sports field. Notably, the university has consecutively defended and won multiple national championships in handball and rowing at the annual National University Championships for the past four years. As the integration of physical education and competitive sports at our university gradually deepens, these high-level athletic victories play a significant positive exemplary and driving role in talent cultivation for the sports major. While bringing honor to the university, they also serve as an essential component in nurturing well-rounded, high-quality talents. Moving forward, the School of Physical Education will continue to deepen the sports-education integration strategy. It will fully leverage the unique functions of educating people and cultivating intelligence through sports, continuously contributing sports power to the realization of the university’s two major goals.
