From June 10 to 11, the 25th anniversary celebration of the Sino-American 1+2+1 Talent Cultivation Program was held in Beijing under the theme “Openness and Mutual Learning: Sino-US Educational Cooperation for Talent Cultivation and Deeper Understanding”. The event attracted over 120 representatives from more than 60 universities of both countries. The NYNU delegation, including President Luo Yongsong, Vice President Xiong Xinzhong, and directors of the President’s Office and the International Office, attended the events. Vice President Xiong signed the “1+2+1 Program Pilot Class Cooperation Agreement” with Troy University on behalf of NYNU.
During the events, NYNU held dedicated talks with Troy University, attended by senior leadership from both institutions. The discussion was moderated by Wu Qin, Deputy Director of the China Center for International Education Exchange (CCIE).
President Luo highlighted NYNU’s educational characteristics, disciplinary strengths, and development strategies. He stated the formal agreement with Troy University marked a new implementation phase of the cooperation. Emphasizing credit mutual recognition, joint cultivation, and dual-degree programs, President Luo expressed confidence that this collaboration would enhance both institutions' internationalization and foster Sino-American friendship.
The Senior Vice President of Troy University showcased their distinctive programs and recalled being the first US university to join the 1+2+1 Program in 2001. With a dedicated China Project Office handling academic coordination and student support, Troy has cultivated numerous globally competent professionals through this initiative over 25 years.
Both sides exchanged views on the Pilot Class implementation and explored future cooperation directions. Notably, Troy University produced a promotional video for the program at NYNU’s invitation prior to the meeting.
Program Background: Since its launch in 1999, the 1+2+1 Program has involved 168 Chinese and 44 American universities, graduating nearly 7,000 students. The Pilot Class model, pioneered in 2009 under this framework, systematically integrates Sino-US curricula to create a diversified talent cultivation system. Currently adopted by 50+ universities, this cohort-based model enables students to experience both educational systems. In 2025, NYNU’s Sino-US experimental class program will recruit students from the society in the form of class formation and independent enrollment code. The enrollment quota is 40 students, mainly for Henan Province, and also for Guangdong, Zhejiang and Shandong provinces.
